In a recent interview for Attitude magazine, actor Brian J. Smith publicly came out of the closet and gave details of how he lived his childhood and adolescence as a result of bullying.
Brian J. Smith said he was trying to be “discreet” at all times and not misinterpret “looks.”
“I could never be who I was,”. “I was constantly having to check myself and make sure I wasn’t looking at someone too long or making someone feel uncomfortable.”, said Smith
“I had to be very, very careful about telling people the truth about myself,” he added. “It still reverberates. A lot of my work is about that. The things that move me as an actor are those echoes that come up.”
While remembering his childhood, he said he would like to “hug his inner child” to tell him that “everything is fine.”
The actor confessed that the “fear of acceptance” led him to live like this for 30 years, at which age he decided to leave the closet with his parents, to which they reacted positively.
Smith acknowledged that his parents’ words gave him the strength to accept himself as is.
Brian J. Smith rose to international fame thanks to his participation in the Netflix Sese8 series where he gave life to the character of Will Gorski, a United States policeman.
